Who runs Ames Youth Football?
Ames Youth Football is 100% volunteer ran and is a non profit organization serving the Ames area community. We proudly serve over 160 families each year and continue to grow! Our dedicated Board of Directors, Coaches and other amazing volunteers are dedicated to teaching and sharing their passion for the game of football!
Do offer Tackle Football and Flag Football?
We do! Ames Youth Football offers youth from 1st to 6th grades the option to participate in our Flag Football League and our Tackle Football program is available for those in 3rd through 6th grades. Teams are split up into age sets - 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th and 5th/6th.
Is Youth Tackle Football Safe?
There is of course an inherent risk in any sport a child participates in and it's completely understandable to be concerned about your child's safety in any sport. Safety is the top priority to both the Ames Youth Football Board and our Head Coaches who receive training and are USA Football Certified. Teaching and coaching players on proper techniques has shown to significantly reduce impacts of injuries. In addition to well trained coaches, proper and well fitting equipment, strict safety protocols and age appropriate leagues can all minimize the risk for injury. Our Board Members and Coaches are always willing to speak with you about any concern you have so please reach out to us at anytime.
How do I register?
Registration is online and typically opens in February each year and ends in July. You can check our registration page for more information.
When do you practice?
Tackle Football Teams typically begins in mid August and will practice 4 days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays. Tackle Football games are held on Sundays and once those begin, practice will go to 3 times a week. Your coach will provide you details on practice schedules but is generally 2 hours.
Do you travel to other towns?
Both Tackle and Flag Football teams play here in Ames and also travel to surrounding towns as we are a competitive youth football league. Flag Games take place on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays while Tackle Games are on Sunday afternoons.
We are happy to answer all your questions and if we have heard it multiple times we will get it on this page in the future.
